Course Description
Do you love burlesque and want to perform a solo act at a Sugar Blue Show? This is the course for you! Our short course will reveal your inner burlesque starlet! This course is designed to define your character, find your strengths, and help you create a solo burlesque performance ready for a sugar blue show!
We will supply you with a cd of burlesque classic tunes as well as guiding you through the important elements of this performance art, such as expression, characterisation, prop usage, listening and using your music effectively, vintage styling and costuming, the art of tease and of course how to perform burlesque on a stage!
Week 1: Development of personal burlesque character
Week 2: Musicality and Movement for a burlesque performance
Week 3: The Fine Art of the Tease and how to interact with the audience
Week 4:
Hair & Make up classic tips/Burlesque Accessories & Props
Week 5:
Burlesque Costuming. Create your own unique undergarments
Week 6: Class presentation of your Solo performance
At the end of the course we will put
on a Graduate Show and you can make your solo burlesque debut, performing
alongside your fellow students and the Sugar Blue Burlesque artistes
too!
Be prepared to do a bit of homework for this course, as it all leads up to your solo debut. Be aware that like all burlesque performers, you will need to spend some money to create your costume., unless you are very resourceful!
This is not a dance course, it is a course based on performance, expression and the classic elements of a burlesque, which make it into a performance art, rather than just an old-fashioned strip show.
We do recommend the Beginner's Burlesque Dance course as being the perfect addition to this 6-week course. It will help you develop your movement and confidence for the burlesque stage!
After you complete this course and do the show, you may want to get advanced and move on to the Solo Burlesque Performer Course 2.
What to Wear
The first session doesn't involve too much physical activity, so wear whatever you feel comfortable in. A pair of heels that you can walk in (or want to learn how to walk in!) is the most important thing to have for this course.Restrictions
This course is for women & men, and you must be 18 years or older.
No experience whatsoever is needed to take the course, it's perfect for
all ages, shapes and persuasions! All levels of skill will be catered
to!
