Hello Lovelies! It's been a while. Things have been a little hectic at Cupcakes HQ! But I'm back!
So here is one of the things that's been keeping me away. I recently auditioned for "Australia's Got Talent". Here's my clip. I was on TV y'all, being a goof.
I'm slowly making my way up that Perthonality ladder. Sadly, I didn't get any further than this but it was a fun experience and I'm glad I did it. I'm also glad they didn't make me look like a complete derp. That's a win in my books!
See you again soon munchkins!

Sponsor Satan's Angel: The Movie

Satan’s Angel is one of my personal heroes of burlesque for obvious reasons; without her inspiration I would never have got into fire tassel twirling! She is a true legend having performed since the 60s and having become one of the most well-known burlesque performers of the 20th century with a truly unique and novel talent.
Right now there is a Kickstarter project going to help fund a documentary about her life (and it is a seriously crazy life). To make the film the producers need $10,000 by 11 July. In return for your hard cash (which is only taken if the total goal is reached) you receive SWAG. There is some awesome stuff up for grabs depending on how much you pledge such as CDs, burlesque DVDs, posters, photos and some really exciting stuff if you start pledging $250 and over.
I want to see this film! But it will only be made with YOUR help. I have made a pledge of $100. I seriously implore each of you to donate at least $25 to help make this project happen.
Click through to the Kickstarter page to watch a short clip about the project and see what you can get for your pledge!
Burlesque Vs Stripping (Aren't They The Same Thing?)
Burlesque has an interesting relationship to stripping in that it was the stripping of its day, back in the first half of the 20th century. That all changed with the sexual revolution of the 60s and 70s when the strip clubs that we know today started to come into existence. In these clubs the girls would take it all off (generally unheard of in burlesque), and often not with much of the tease and glamour that we associate with burlesque.
Most modern day burlesque performers and aficionados would be aware of the innate differences between ‘burlesque’ and ‘stripping’ although the simplistic idea that burlesque is classy and stripping isn’t, is misleading. I have seen some pretty vulgar burlesque acts and some very classy and skilled full strips, so it really comes down to the individual and their performance.
The most fundamental difference, I suppose, is that strippers will bare all while burlesque performers will always keep on (at bare minimum) pasties and a g-string (or merkin). And this doesn’t even begin to scrap the surface of everything else that burlesque can be (comedy, aerials, contortion, performance art, prop work such as fans or hoops, or pure dance numbers) which are normally not found in the realm of modern-day stripping. This is also not to say that burlesque dancers and strippers hold some sort of bitchy, wary-eyed opinion of each other. While I am sure some do, there are lots of girls whose careers have crossed between the two worlds and many others who appreciate their ecdysiast cousins.
All that aside, neo-burlesque and stripping have both sprung from the same bawdy nightclubs and theatres of yesteryear and are both a form of erotic entertainment; it would be improper not to recognise or to deny burlesque’s true roots.
Interview With Roxi D'Lite

Here is a nice little interview with outgoing Reigning Queen Of Burlesque, Roxi D’Lite.
Sugar Blue Burlesque - Naughty Parisian Girls
Another clip from the Casino De Paris show - this time A’dora Derriere and I get up to no good at a Parisian cafe!
Sugar Blue Burlesque - La Mer
Here is footage of our synchronised swimming act from the Sugar Blue Burlesque “Casino de Paris” show in August 2009.
Starring Miss Jane, Trixi Tassels and Coco Poppins.
Miss Indigo Blue: The Reigning Queen of Burlesque
Miss Indigo Blue has been named The Reigning Queen of Burlesque at the 2011 International Hall Of Fame weekend.

Indigo is one of the performers I first stumbled across when I was researching tassel twirling and is definitely one of the world’s best!
She is very good technically at twirling and has a clip on YouTube (below) where she showcases her skills. It is one of the clips I sought inspiration from when choreographing the twirling section of my Ann-Margaret act.
Like me, she uses her shoulders for her single-sided twirl and double-outward-alternating, but I’m still the one person I know who can get my tassels to twirl in the same direction by using only my ribcage!

Immodesty Blaise & Dirty Martini

Here are a couple of great interviews that delve a lot deeper than the normal write-ups you read with burlesque stars. Some interesting thoughts and tales from the theatre-world.
'Burlesque Is About Imperfection'

Here is a short interview with Mathieu Amalric, the director of the film 'On Tour' about burlesque that I quite enjoyed.
