Stockholm Burlesque Festival - A review!

I was lucky enough to be one of the performers at the 2nd Annual Stockholm Burlesque Festival 2012!

Produced by The Amazing Knicker Kittens, Fräulein Frauke & John Paul Bichard, it was 4 day festival (11-14th October 2012), but I was only able to be there for 3 of them. The 2 main shows were on the Friday & Saturday night were in a fabulous venue which held the shows in 2 rooms. They had a taster show on the smaller room at the beginning of the night, leading through to a bigger room with a bigger stage and some racked seating after an interval.

On the Saturday night, they even held a tassel twirling competition in the smaller room before they opened up the second room for the big show! Headliners of this festival were LouLou D'vil from Finland, Luna Rosa and Fancy Chance from the UK.

All photos on this blog entry, are by the awesome photographer and co-producer of the festival John Paul Bichard, who also had his own exhibition of his marvelous photos at the main show venue!

On the Sunday, the festival brunch was held at the Scandic Malman Hotel, which is where I stayed as well. Its a very modern, rock n roll hotel!! For the brunch the hotel food was delicious and we were entertained by jazz from a singing Fräulein Frauke and Velma Voluptuous. What a great day!!

So, here are some of the shots from the festival. Enjoy!! It was a well produced, friendly festival and the crowd was ace!

So, here I am performing my Bondage Black Swan. It seems that the Swedish like a bit of whips and asses! Luckily :) Yes, the act went down a treat! I was happy!

Below are the MCs for the festival. I was blown away by them both!! I simply couldnt get enough of them!!
On the left is Madame Magduschka from Sweden (who played a Russian madame) and on the right is Laurie Hagen from the UK (who was a French hottie.. I wanted to eat her up!!)

So, when it came to my highlights of the festival, I just dont know where to begin, but firstly we have a performer who stood out! Lady Lou is a kiwi gal who is currently living in Berlin. She blew me away. Her costume and performance - Amazing! She even did a bit of contact juggling! Was awesome!

And who did I meet at the festival, but none other than Brisbane performer La Viola Vixen who is also currently living in Berlin. Ill be going to Berlin in November to perform in a show that the two of these berlin based gals are producing, called the Sunday Soiree Burlesque. Cant wait to see them again - what fabulous ladies!!

The lady with the hot body and the gold glitter all over her is another kiwi born lass, Sophia St. Villier who currently resides in the UK like me. She is smokin'!!! She also runs Naked Girls Reading in London, and you can see why. Next to her is a performer that I loved! Her name is Lilly Tiger from Germany. Such a fun and sexy act and she is the master of faces! I love love love this gal!

There were also a couple of Boylesque Performers, who were fab! This guy below is Canadian Wrong Note Rusty.

Below from New York is the very talented and flexible Apathy Angel! Very cool stuff!

Here is the other boylesque star. Bent Van Der Bleu, from Finland with tassels on his ass, you couldnt stop this guy!!

Oh, Miss Glory Pearl from the UK. She is hillarious and one of my favourite performers to watch. What a hot granny :)

Ruby Luscious from Sweden! Classic and beautiful and very very sexy!!

I met these girls below in Paris last year and I fell in love with them!! Blackbird Burlesque Cabaret are amazing! Well choreographed and gorgeous costumes, amazing singer, beautiful dancers!! Need I say more! I wanted more!

The beautiful Fräulein Frauke below singing and dancing. She was so wonderful to watch. Her look was perfect!! How can someone be so talented in performing and also an obviously fabulous producer!!

This act below I loved!! These gals could shake their asses! wow!! Yvette Les Fesses & Ivoncita from Sweden.

Then we had some comedy. The 2 ladies from Les Femmes Brachiales from Berlin, which tore down the house with laughter, absolutely brilliant. To the right we have the amazing and one of the most experimental performers out there in the Cabaret world, Fancy Chance from the UK/USA.

Minnie Tonka's interview about her upcoming Oz Tour!

As you may know by now, I have the great pleasure of bringing over the show 'The Stage Door Johnnies & The Schlep Sisters' to Perth on the 16th October at the Fly By Night in Fremantle. I have seen both groups perform in the states live and it was one of the most awesome performances I have ever seen. They are both very inspirational!

I was also lucky enough while given the opportunity to perform at the New York Burlesque Festival in 2010, to meet Minnie Tonka, one half of the Schlep Sisters. She was so lovely and expressed her dream of one day coming to Perth. Now she is with this amazing show and here is my interview with her!

A'dora: Minnie, when I met you at the New York Burlesque Festival in 2010, you told me it was your dream to come to Australia? Looks like your dream is coming true with your upcoming tour to Oz in Oct/November. Tell me why you have wanted to come to Oz so much in the past?

Minnie: Yes! Australia has been the #1 place I’ve wanted to visit since the 90’s after I met my good friend Jacinta (who is from Melbourne) at a hostel in London. Over the years, Jacinta visited me, but I haven’t had the chance to visit her, until now! Throughout my life, in burlesque and also just travelling, the Australians I have encountered are some of the most lively, joyous people I’ve ever met and I cannot wait to spend a month with them! I get to perform and do what I love while I’m in the country I’ve dreamed about visiting for so many years?! This truly is a dream come true!!!

A'dora: As most of our Perth audiences have never been able to experience your amazing stage talents before, can you give us a quick description on your performance style. What is one/some of your acts that are the most requested?

Minnie: I am a neo-burlesque performer and I bring a bring humor, dance, theatrics, and lots of love to all my performances. I grew up in the 80’s, love the music, and that is reflected in several of my acts. Overall, my intention is to inspire, entertain, and make people laugh!

A'dora: Can you give me a few teasers of what will be in the show?

Minnie: We are excited to debut a new group number with The Stage Door Johnnies, our M.C. Nadine Dubois, and The Schlep Sisters (my duet with my dance partner, Darlinda Just Darlinda). I think what’s also exciting about this tour is that we have several solo acts plus The Johnnies trios and The Schlep Sisters duets. This show is going to be epic! Get ready, Australia!

A'dora: Who are these Stage Door Johnnies that everyone is talking about and why are one of the best things since sliced bread in the today's burlesque scene?

Minnie: I am honored to call The Stage Door Johnnies - Ray Gunn, Jett Adore, and Bazuka Joe – my dear friends. Not only are they outstanding male burlesque dancers and entertainers, they are truly kind, genuine, and all-around awesome people! I’ve had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with them the past few years in Minneapolis (my hometown) and Chicago (their home base) and NYC (my home base) and also at burlesque festivals around the U.S. I think what makes them the best things since sliced bread in today’s burlesque scene is the fact that they are incredibly inspiring and creative performers - they put so much time and thought into their acts/characters – they each have their own unique style as individual performers and when they perform together as their trio, OMG! The Johnnies are super fun, on stage and off -- Perth, GET READY!!!

The glamorous 'Hooray for Hollywood' show was held on the 14th July 2012 at the Fly By Night, Fremantle. It's guest star was Miss Burlesque Australia Winner for 2012, Briana Bluebell from Sydney. The show was also MCed by a new MC for Sugar Blue, comedian Bonnie Tessa Davies.

Perth International Burlesque Festival 2012 Highlights!

The 1st Perth International Burlesque Festival was a hugely success series of events during the dates of the 24th- 27th of May 2012, in different venues around Perth, Western Australia. Produced by myself, A'dora Derriere and fellow Sugar Blue gal, Coco Poppin, we were so happy with how the festival went that we will be putting on the festival as an annual event!

I thought it was time to enlighten you, if you dont know her or about her already, is Lia Parravacini (aka Sapphire Demure), one of the driving forces of Sugar Blue Burlesque, who is an inspiration to all who she meets!

Lia is a creative genius! Not only is she one of the main teachers at the Sugar Blue Burlesque Academy, she runs the Fresh Faced Follies show, is a vintage specialist in hair & make-up styling as well as an amazing fashion designer, stylist and costume maker for a lot of the ladies in the Sugar Blue troupe! Lucky for you, she has even introduced a new academy course teaching you Pin-up Vintage & Cabaret Make-up & Hair Styling!
